Disappointed

For the past few days now, there has been a forum on the comment section. Whether Tolkien was Catholic or Christian we have been discussing. Linisil, has placed doubts in our minds about Lord of the Rings being Christian. Well, I have something to say to you Linisil, why has so many people gotten saved over it? An even better question, If these movies are so Catholic, Why are YOU watching them? If they teach things against the Bible, shouldn't you have thrown them in the trash?

Lord of the Rings is my favorite movie of ALL TIME, and I assure you all, I would never choose a Catholic's work to be one. No, even Peter Jackson(who in no knowledge is Christian) realized Tolkien's true for Christianity. When asked if he would keep Tolkien's themes in the movies...

"Of course I am! If you take out Christianity you have nothing left!"

If someone who is not even believed to be a Christian sees it, shouldn't we?

"I not only believed that they should know the Christianity, I thought they should study it. So I gave them all this Bibles, and said ,This is your character, now study who you are!" Peter Jackson referring to the cast.

Did all of the cast study the Bible?

Wow that was cool! I mean about Jackson saying that thsi is your character, now study who you are. I very much doubt they REALLY read the bibles, but at least Jackson realized 'hey, these people in the book act Christai.' Though I'd very much doubt that people can GENUINELY get saved by watchng LotR, we have to remember that it was written in an era that even if you weren't christain you still lived by those standards. Maybe that's why so many Christains have no problem with LotR, because of the Christain morals in it! ;) And it's odd that a worldly person realizes that the Christain themes make it great! Not all the other junk of stuff like in Harry Potter...

Awel Prince,

I have heard that people really have gotten saved by the movies and the books. I believe part of the reason C.S. Lewis got saved was because of the LotR books.

WOW! That is very encouraging! I LOVE watching and reading LOTR, and very early on when I started reading Tolkien, I was able to identify the christian allagorys.

Always Hope,

LOL! I'm not sure. But you can find several pictures of Orlando Bloom reading his, though I'm not sure if he was truly trying to understand it. And I have heard that Peter Jackson kept having to remind Dominic Monaghan.

Awel Prince,

You might be surprised how many people have come to the Lord because of these movies.

EchoOfMercy,

You are very right about that.

Bria,

It is indeed very encouraging,to think that Peter Jackson had the humility to leave all the Christianity in it. You have to wonder if he even believed there was a God.

Thank you all for your comments!

HI! just stumbled by a bit ago, I hope you don't mind if I follow for a while.

I think Mr. Tolkien was a christian, but I do not believe that the LoTR books were meant to be an allagory. My friend has looked into it, and they were just taken to be allagories, Mr. Tolkien just wrote them as novels...I think...:)

Ithilwen,

Sure you can use them!

Jo-snazz,

When your friend looked into some of the things that were said about LotR, she may have found something that said Tolkien claimed that it wasn't a allegory, but we must remember that Tolkien had different meanings for certain words. I was very confuse when he said that it was not an allegory, but he also said later on that it was a Christian work. And he also said....

"Lord of the Rings, is simply looking at the Bible through a different point of view."

Listen, I didn't intend to argue with you, but when it comes to Lord of the Rings, I will fight you all the way, LOL!

God Bless!

Awesome!!! they are my favorite movies of COMPLETE all time. :) I love that quote by Peter Jackson, too. The movies wouldn't be anything without the Christianity.

I know. Lord of the Rings is often mistaken for being Catholic, but quoting dear Mr.Tolkien, "What Catholic about it?"

I think that Tolkien didn't want people to take them as alagory. He hated alagory and that's one of the reasons he disliked the Narnia series. He said that it was just a story, not a reversion of the bible like C.S. Lewis' Narnia tales. I think that the christian/catholic shows through because that's what he believed in and that's who he was. He was a Catholic, Christian as am I. Tolkien was a master of his art. Anyways, even though I am a Catholic doesn't mean I am not a Christian. I believe Jesus Christ is my savior. If that's not Christianity, i don't know what is. May the Lord be with you,
