Lady of Rohan

"Are we talking about Eowyn in the books or movies?"
Good Question.;)
I find that most people either hate or love Miranda Otto's Eowyn. I happened to be one of those strange people who is sorta in-between.:) Yes, she is very lovely, and she is a very good actress, but her Eowyn isn't exactly the same from the book. Actually, "exactly" would be an understatement. Her Eowyn is very different from the Eowyn from the books.
I am not a book purist. I thought I was at one time, but I don't think I would love the movies if I was.:) The Eowyn that Tolkien wrote about, seemed to me, was a very bitter woman. Perhaps the most bitter woman in classic literature.
Whereas it seemed Peter Jackson wanted to portray an immature girl growing into womanhood. In fact, one of my friends commented on how Eowyn(from the movies) reminded her of a much more immature Emma Woodhouse.
Which Eowyn do you prefer? Book or movie?
Regardless, I am very upset that Mr. Jackson left out some of my very favorite lines from the book;
Éowyn: Alas, not me, lord! Shadow lies on me still. Look not to me for healing! I am a shieldmaiden and my hand is ungentle. But I thank you for this at least, that I need not keep to my chamber. I will walk abroad by the grace of the Steward of the City.
AND
Faramir: Éowyn, I would not have this world end now, or lose so soon what I have found.
AND
Faramir: Do not scorn pity that is the gift of a gentle heart, Éowyn!
AND much more.....:)
